Fedora v42 Desktop/Workstation/Server

Fedora

Fedora Workstation is a computer operating system and distribution of Linux, featuring the GNOME Shell 3.28 desktop environment , and is produced by members of the Fedora Project. The project is supported by Red Hat. The goal of the project is to produce a multi-purpose operating system that is built largely from free software packages. The distribution is designed to be easy to install and configure for its intended purpose. This is made possible by the installation software and the easy-to-use system software suite. Software packages and their required software are easily obtained from the Yum software. A new version of Fedora is released every six to eight months. Many programs are included with this operating system.

The project began in 2003 when the Red Hat Linux project was terminated. Red Hat suggested that all users of Red Hat Linux use the company’s Professional Linux as an alternative, since the previous version was no longer supported. At the same time, the Fedora project was started to create a completely free operating system for the public, the results of the work of users of this operating system are also used in Red Hat Professional Linux. For this reason, some critics believe that Fedora Linux users are actually testers of Red Hat Professional Linux. The release of Fedora Linux made commercial Linux publishers welcome this development method, that is, to release a public version close to the commercial version, with the public version as a test environment for the commercial version.

The goal of The Fedora Project is to work with the Linux community to build a complete, general purpose operating system exclusively from open source software. Development will be done in a public forum.
